So far as I know, any Mac with 16 colors or better and about 350k free RAM.
The greater the bit depth of your monitor, the more memory needed and the game might slow down, depending on your computer. (By default, the RAM is set to what I needed to run it in thousands of colors on my computer. The speed limit is also set to just slower than my computer handled at thousands.)
Physics:
The ball behaves like light: angle of incidence equals the angle of refraction. In other pictures, if it comes in like this:
it will go out like this:
(Okay, so the angle is supposed to be relative to the normal, but same difference… ;-)
Then there's a bu--I mean, "feature" that allows the ball to slip through the crack between two balls. In a densely packed cluster of blocks, this can really help -- until you reach the death block on the other side…
Menus:
File
New Game - Ends any game that's currently being played and starts a new one.
Pause / Resume - Pauses or resumes the current game.
Quit - Quits.
Options
Sound On / Sound Off - Turns the game's sound on or off.
Draw Fastest / Draw Normal - The lower the bit depth is of the monitor, the faster Quickdraw (i.e. the System) can do what I ask it. By default, the speed is limited to doing the program's loop no more than once every 1/30 of a second. This option takes away (or reinstates) that limitation, making it possible for the ball to travel at much greater speeds.
Editing Levels:
You can edit the levels by opening up the program with ResEdit and modifying 'cicn' resources 200 through 206. Each pixel represents a block, and each one of six colors represents how many hits. If you want more (or fewer) levels, just change the number in STR# resource 128. DON'T CHANGE THE cicn'S DIMENSIONS! If anyone expresses interest in making a nicer level editor, I will do so! Troubleshooting:
Three things:
1) Make sure the monitor is set to at least 16 colors.
2) Use the "Get Info" command in the Finder to increase the prefered memory size.
3) Decrease the number of colors at which your monitor is set.
Known Bug:
When I ran the 68k version under emulation on my PPC, every once in a while it didn't play a sound when it should. This is nothing big, so I'm not going to bother fixing it right now.
